A Story Of Healing
A MIRACLE FROM PRISON
By
Walter York

I was serving an 18-month sentence in a Federal prison because a local cable technician told a viscous lie about me to the local sheriff. He claimed that he saw something on my desktop photo that was not there. The authorities believed this cable-guy because he was a small-town local yokel who had never been trouble. I, on the other hand, was from Los Angeles, CA, and I had been in trouble there 50 years ago. This was “justice” in a small Tennessee community.

I always prayed to God that I wanted to do His Will – whether I liked it or not. Now, I was praying that I still wanted to do His will, “…whether I like it or not, but please don’t send me to prison!” But this story is not about me; it’s about Bill, his twin sister Ann, God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.

One evening, after a delicious dinner at the home of two of my special friends, my friend’s wife suggested that maybe God had someone in prison who He wanted me to minister to. That thought had been in my mind ever since the judge sentenced me (I was still out on bond). At each thought, I just shook my head and shuddered, that is, until I began to consider the proposition seriously. Next, I submitted myself to God to do His will, in the belief that He would lead me to His person-in-need as soon as I began serving my sentence.

The prison, in reality, was a Medical Center rather than a full-blown penitentiary. If not for the surrounding razor wire one could imagine being on a college campus, well, at an all-male college. Flowers, bushes, and small, flowering trees lined many of the oversized sidewalks across the compound. The atmosphere was serene solitude. The two building in the low security area were rectangular with an upstairs and a downstairs. Each floor on either side was divided into four lines of open-air cubicles and two aisles.  Standing on his bunk, an inmate could easily look over the walls and talk to his neighbors on three sides. The cubicle doors were open spaces. The only bars were on the windows of each building.

I was at the facility for just over a year when one night, as I was having a conversation with my “cellies”, an inmate began to cry. This was no normal crying. The inmate on the opposite aisle of our B Unit was crying his heart out. He was wailing and seriously carrying on. He didn’t stop. I looked at my cellies and asked rhetorically, “Who in the world is that?” I didn’t expect an answer because they didn’t know any more than I did. “I’m gonna check it out,” I told them. “Don’t get involved,” they cautioned. I ignored the warning.

I went to the other side and found Bill, an inmate in his 50s, and who was more of an acquaintance than a real friend. Bill, “What’s goin’ on wit ya?” He filled me in. His twin sister had been an alcoholic for many years, and now her liver and one kidney were shutting down. She had been rushed to the hospital, and the doctors had given her 24 hours to live! “Come on,” I said, “let’s go find Rufus and have prayer about this!”

Rufus was a friend of mine who was in his 80s. I knew him to be a good Christian because he was in the Gideon church service every Saturday at 8:00am, and I never heard him cuss or talk bad about anybody. Furthermore, he was always telling me how he only had a few months left on his sentence and that he wanted to spend the remainder of his life serving the Lord. Rufus had a Christian aura about him that made him totally believable. I told him that we needed to pray for Bill’s twin sister Ann, and Bill filled him in on the details.

We went to Rufus’ cubicle. We placed Bill between us while Rufus and I joined hands. Rufus went first. He admitted that we were all sinners; that’s why we were incarcerated. Then he asked God the Father to have mercy on Ann and to give healing to her in Jesus’ name. I was so caught up in the moment that I don’t remember my prayer verbatim. I confessed that were sinners and were not worthy of our daily blessings. I sought help from God the Holy Spirit, the Giver of life. I asked that He please go to Ann and give her comfort and healing in the Holy Name of Jesus. Bill thanked us and said that he felt much better. Then it was Count Time and Lights Out.

The next day was Sunday. A group of us gathered each Sunday to read the Rosary before Mass. For my prayer intention, I asked the group to pray for Bill’s twin sister who had been given 24 hours to live. After Mass, Bill found me in my cubicle, and he was almost jumping for joy. Overnight, Ann experienced a healing that caught the doctors by surprise. In fact, they were calling it a miracle! I was quick to explain to Bill that he had to go to church next Sunday to give God praise and glory and to thank Him for saving Ann’s life. He promised to do that very thing, and he left. I thanked God, right then and there, for answering our prayer requests.

The following Sunday afternoon I saw Bill in his cubicle. “Did you go to church today and thank God for saving Ann’s life?

“Nahhh,” he replied, “I was too tired. Me and some friends stayed up till late, so I decided to sleep in.” I reminded him of his promise, and he promised, again, to go to church next Sunday. The following three Sundays came and went, and still he failed to go to church and to thank God for saving his twin sister’s life.

God And His Role In My Life

Part # 1

Too many times in our lives we often take God for granted.  Just because we can not see him in the flesh does not mean he is not there. Like the air you breath you can not see him or the air but you surely need them to live.

Without God in our lives the struggles would not be possible for us to conquer, and the life as we know it would present many hardships.

God is in each of us and wants a direct relationship with us everyday not just when a crisis strikes. The Bible is an instructional text that helps build our faith and hope so that as born again Christians we can battle against the forces of evil we can not see which is referred to as spiritual warfare. Prayer is our direct line to our Father when we need to talk to him.

Ephesians 6:12

For we wrestle not against flesh and blood but against principalities against powers against rules of darkness in this world against spiritual wickedness in high places

I can testify to these statements because I know first hand the power of the almighty. For 3 years I struggled with Stage 4 Lymphoma, {A blood cancer} that is hard to diagnose as well as one of the most aggressive cancers there is. I not only refused to accept the doctors opinion that I should just be made comfortable and enjoy whatever life I had left. I went into action with my faith in God and put the situation in his hands.  I then had to put order and obedience into the equation and just let God do what his word promises for he alone is the 'Great Healer'.

Philemon 1:21

Having confidence in thy obedience I wrote unto thee, knowing that thou wilt also do more than I say.
Romans 16:19

For your obedience is come abroad unto all men. I am glad therefore on your behalf: but yet I would have you wise unto that which is good and simple concerning evil
My point very simple trust in the creator of all men Armour yourself up with the word of God and allow his love and his grace to serve you as he has so abundantly provided in each and every life whether you believe it or not even or if you accept it or not because it is so. So many have their beliefs in how to address the lord and that's fine for God allows us free will but he answers by many names. Society puts too much time and stigma around the simplest things they try to analyze what only God knows as he is filled with answers to the many wonders of lifePsalms 107:24
These see the works the LORD, and his wonders in the deep. Today I am Cancer free and healthy knowing my faith and obedience in the lord is why I am still among the living with a new outlook and an anointed purpose . Today I am Cancer free and healthy knowing my faith and obedience in the lord is why I am still among the living with a new outlook and an anointed purpose .

Jeremiah 1:5
Before I formed thee in the belly I knew thee; and before thou came forth out of the womb I sanctified thee, and I ordained thee a prophet unto the nations.

God And His Role In My Life

(to be continued)
I've always been a happy soul.  I have always believed and appreciated what a wonderful gift God gave me with life, earth and sky.  Lately I have been standing up for that joy daily.

It seems that too many people wander around in fear and lost in their journey.  There are a thousand reasons why.  Though instead of focusing on all the reasons, I wanted to share my wisdom with solutions.   My own personal recipe for happiness.

First of all, people should think about "the rights to life" concept.

I think it is a good habit to run through your head if it is your right to take happiness away from another.

I have witnessed great changes in circles of people who had no hope and lived a life of complete panic.

Throw your hands up to God and ask him to enlighten you.  To widen your path and show you the way.

People wonder why such amazing things happen for me.   It's no secret as I smile knowing the power of prayer is overwhelming and the gift of peace is in my soul as God intended.  Thanking him for every small detail.

I wish for everyone to be blessed as I have been blessed.   Blessed with the joy and the peace, so you can live in harmony and know the wonder of our Lord who art in Heaven.

Amen.
